Forgotten wallet password

Recovering a forgotten wallet password is possible when the wallet file still exists.

Is this your case

Situations we typically see

01

Bitcoin Core, Electrum, Exodus or another program opens and shows the balance but rejects the password when you try to send.

02

You have a wallet backup (wallet.dat, .json file, keystore, .wallet file) and cannot remember the encryption password.

03

The password was a variation of an older password, with numbers or symbols at the end, and dozens of attempts have failed.

04

You wrote the password down with a typo or a misread character and no version of the note works.

05

The wallet was created years ago, when you used a different password convention, and the exact pattern is lost.

Materials

What we need to assess the case

None of these items should be sent through the form. They are discussed during the call and, if the case is accepted, requested only through the channel agreed in the contract.

  • The wallet file or backup, or the device where the program is installed.
  • Your memories of the password: approximate length, words, names, dates, usual substitutions (a for @, o for 0), language and capitalisation.
  • Old passwords from other services you used at the time, because patterns repeat.
  • A public address or transaction from the wallet, useful to confirm that the wallet found is the right one.
  • Proof of identity and ownership, verified before any technical work.

Process

How we handle a forgotten password case

The path is the same as in every other case: triage without secrets, a 30 minute assessment, a work proposal, offline execution and an assisted transfer.

  1. Step 01

    Tell us what happened

Complete a short form with the wallet type, the problem and what you still have. Do not submit any secret.

  2. Step 02

    Speak with a specialist

Have a free technical assessment lasting 30 minutes in English or Portuguese.

  3. Step 03

    Receive an initial assessment

Understand preliminary viability, which materials may be required and the next steps.

  4. Step 04

    Authorize the work

After ownership verification and service formalization, we request only what is strictly necessary.

  5. Step 05

    Pay only after a recovery

When successful, you move the assets to a new wallet during an assisted session and pay the agreed success fee.

Viability

What determines viability

Wallets use deliberately slow key derivation functions. Every attempt costs processing time, so the quality of your memories matters more than raw hardware power.

How much you remember
A known base with specific doubts (capitalisation, numeric suffix, one swapped character) produces search spaces of thousands to billions of candidates, which are feasible. A completely random password of 16 or more characters with no memory at all is not.
Wallet type and version
Bitcoin Core, Electrum, MetaMask, Ethereum keystores and discontinued programs use different algorithms and derivation costs. Some allow hundreds of thousands of tests per second; others, a few dozen.
File integrity
If the file is also corrupted, recovery starts with rebuilding the encrypted data. See the corrupted file page.
Target confirmation
With a known public address, every candidate is validated without ambiguity. Without it, work is still possible, but verification depends on the wallet itself.

Service limits

What we cannot do

  • We cannot recover a password without the wallet file, backup or device. The public address alone does not contain the required information.
  • We do not guarantee recovery: we accept the work when the search space is realistic and tell you when it is not.
  • We do not recover stolen funds or funds sent to scammers, even when your wallet password is part of the story.

Security and confidentiality

Your data is treated as the most sensitive asset in the process.

We minimize data collection for every case. Recovery attempts are performed offline on equipment controlled by Vault, with access restricted to the specialists responsible.

Never send a seed phrase, private key or password to someone who contacts you without your request. Always verify Vault Recovery's official channels.

01

No secrets are requested in the initial form.

02

Work begins only after identity, ownership or legal authority is verified.

03

We request only the material required for the specific case.

04

Recovery attempts take place in a controlled offline environment.

05

You participate in moving the assets to a new wallet under your control.

06

Sensitive files and data are permanently deleted after the case is concluded.

Commercial model

A fee only on the value recovered

The initial assessment is free. If the case is accepted and the password is found, the success fee applies to the value actually recovered, within the brackets below. If the password is not found, there is no fee.
